The Mihrab (Prayer Niche) was created with a lot of artistic views and purpose with religion. The Mihrab was created in 755 A.D, originating in Iran, Isfahan. The mihrab is so significant in archaeology due to the existence of an appropriately arranged mihrab in a building. Because of this, the artwork can indicate Muslim attendance in a settlement. The prayer niche is the main focus inside of a mosque. A mosque is a symbol of Islamic architecture. This architecture has an important purpose by displaying the power of Allah the Almighty. The embellishments are to be engaged as part of mosque factors. It is more than to be just aesthetically pleasing to the viewer. The location is in the qibla wall, which is oriented toward the holy city of Islam. This city is called Mecca. With the wall being designed this way, it allows Muslims to face the wall when praying. This prayer niche was set into the qibla wall of a school in Isfahan originally. The school was considered theological. The school studied nature of God and religious belief. The piece however, is now considered the Madrasa Imami. It is known as this because it was created right after the end of the Ilkhanid dynasty. Joining a myriad of cut glazed tiles to construct its intricate arabesque and complex designs created the mihrab. The Prayer Niche is now known as one of the earliest and premium examples of mosaic tile work. In the Islamic world, the extremely detailed work of religious architectural decoration, this mihrab is one of the most significant works in the medieval period. Artists of this generation were very talented craftsmen in woodcarving. These artists combine the decorative scrolling and geometric forms classic of Arabic appealing wood. This medium of art originated in Turkey. The piece is a mosaic of polychrome-glazed cut tile on stone paste body. This is then set into mortar. The dimensions of this piece are about 343.1 centimeters in height and 288.7 centimeters in width. The piece is concave for people to use for prayer. This section of the piece is 251.5 by 105.4 centimeters.
