Sutton Hoo ship burial purse clasps

  Artifacts from Sutton Hoo were found in a burial site. The burial is thought to have been from very important person. The amount of wealth from burial means the artifacts came from a royal burial. It is believed that it could have been king Raedwald. England at this time was divided into a series of kingdoms, so it is hard to determine if this is definite or not. Beautiful gold, garnet and glass artifacts found in burial from early 7 th century. This time period is considered the Anglo-Saxon period. Anglo-Saxon refers to this period between roman rule and the Norman invasion in 1066. The word Anglo-Saxon comes from the Anglos and the Saxons, which were people who migrated to Great Britain in the 6 th century. This area is now known as northern Germany and southern Denmark. In 726 AD, art featuring religion icons was a considered controversial. There was always tension in church in creating images of religious figures like Christ, Mary, and Saints. 8 th century Emperor Leo III openly took an opinion against icons. Because of this, art from churches were removed and destroyed. This started the Iconoclastic Controversy. Iconoclasm means breaking images. Before this, there were numerous spiritual disputes over visual symbols, rightfulness, and the theological fundamentals. Conversely, the huge social, cultural and political disturbance of the emperor started really had a great impact on religious byzantine art. Colossus of Constantine

Later, in 324 he became the sole Roman emperor.  He was also the first emperor to follow Christianity. In 33n his deathbed he delivered a proclamation that secured Christians in the empire. He was last pagan roman emperor and ushers in Christianity and changes in Italy. The colossal statue of Constantine originated in the Basilica Nova in Rome. The fragments were found at the end of the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine. It could have filled that space and was meant for that placement. Michelangelo brought it to the Capitoline hill, the ancient government center The portrait of Constantine is one of the most significant figures of Late Antiquity.  In 1486, only fragments of the statue were discovered in the western apse of the Basilica Nova.
